* Palace Hotel is surely one of my favourite hotels because it is placed in the gorgeous 1891. secession palace. I waited for the right moment because it is rare for me to have the location before everything else. I traveled recently, and when I came back and saw my own city with different eyes, like I always do when I escape, during one of my long walks (I am a walker) I pass Palace...The atmosphere came without me looking for it, an instant feeling, the mid seventies Liliana Cavani aesthetic mixed with the sensuality of Emmanuelle, but with more of the almost tragic static mood of Sylvia Kristel in front of Irina Ionesco's photo-eye, the human body becoming dead living nature, the heavy afternoon becoming night in the city never seen, in the torturing cage.
But I didn't want to evoke the past this time, I saw my today heroine completely unaware of the great beauty around her, so I put a little drop of spoilt attitude in her character so she could be occupied dealing with frivolity in her head beside dead piano in the suite. I made her vulnerable, I made her be in motion, I made her like she was in some kind of preposterous hurry like she is chasing her hopes. Or her purport.
I thought about frescoes on the ceiling, shiny chandeliers, statues and paintings, and imagined that she will never be able to see the real beauty around her. I closed her eyes for the history around her, I have chosen the garment that will blend and go gently and smoothly with the colours of the current atmosphere that I was suddenly thrown into, that will support, with its texture and patterns, visual fusion of the place that was, slowly but surely, transforming my perception…
And there it was - the whole story in my head...
